Case CX Excavator EGR, DPF & DEF Delete

Case CX excavators run Isuzu diesels, and from the CX130C to the CX490D their EGR and DPF systems are behind most unplanned shop visits. Mail the engine ECM to our shop, along with the ACM if your D Series runs DEF, and we bench flash the emissions systems off and send the modules back the next day. We ship all across the US and Canada.

What to send

Tier 4 InterimC Series
ECM
EGR and DPF are handled in the engine ECM.
Tier 4 FinalD Series with DEF
ECM+ACM
The ACM runs the SCR. Without it, DEF stays active.

After the tune

EXHAUSTHollow out or straight pipe the DPFThe DPF has to be hollowed out or replaced with a straight pipe. On D Series machines the SCR catalyst does not restrict flow and can stay in place.
EGRBlock-off plate recommendedThe flash holds the EGR valve shut. A block-off plate over the port is a cheap backup in case the valve sticks open with carbon later on.

Not sure if your CX is a C or D Series, or whether it has DEF? The data plate photo answers both, so send it over and we will confirm.

Why delete the EGR, DPF and DEF on a Case CX excavator?

EGR

Exhaust gas recirculation

The Isuzu engine in a CX210C or CX350D cools part of its exhaust and feeds it back into the intake. On an excavator that spends much of the day at part throttle, that soot settles in the cooler and on the valve, and a sticking EGR valve is one of the most common fault codes on these machines. With EGR shut off, only clean air reaches the cylinders and the cooler stops being a wear item.

DPF

Diesel particulate filter

Both the C and D Series filter soot with a DPF that has to regenerate on a schedule. Swinging, grading and waiting on trucks rarely heat the exhaust enough for passive cleaning, so the machine keeps asking for parked regens, and ash eventually means pulling the filter for service. Hollowing it out or fitting a straight pipe ends the regen cycle for good.

DEF

Diesel exhaust fluid / SCR

Tier 4 Final D Series excavators add an SCR system with its own control module, DEF tank, dosing pump and NOx sensors. A bad batch of fluid, a cracked heater or a failing sensor is enough to cut power partway through a dig. Flashing the ACM along with the ECM shuts off DEF dosing and stops those faults from limiting the excavator.

Frequently asked questions

Q1Where is the engine data plate on a Case CX?+

Open the engine hood and look on the Isuzu engine itself, usually on the valve cover or the side of the block. Send a clear photo where every line can be read, before or with your order.

Q2Which modules do I need to send?+

C Series (Tier 4 Interim) excavators only need the engine ECM. D Series (Tier 4 Final) excavators with DEF need the ECM and the ACM, because the ACM runs the SCR system.

Q3How long will the excavator be down?+

Plan for shipping time each way plus one day in our shop. We flash the modules and ship them back the next day.

Q4What do I do with the DPF?+

The DPF must be hollowed out or swapped for a straight pipe once the modules are back in. On D Series machines, the SCR catalyst can stay where it is.

Q5What should I do with the DEF tank on a D Series?+

Once DEF is shut off, empty the tank and flush the tank, pump and lines with washer fluid so leftover fluid does not crystallize.

Q6Should I block off the EGR?+

We recommend it. The flash keeps the EGR closed, and a block-off plate makes sure exhaust stays out of the intake if the valve sticks later.
