Why delete the DPF, EGR and DEF on a CAT skid steer?

DPF

Diesel particulate filter

Every hour on a CAT loads the filter with soot, and once it fills the machine stops to regenerate, dumping fuel into the exhaust to cook it clean. Over time the filter clogs and has to be pulled for cleaning or replacement. With the DPF gone, exhaust flows freely and regens are a thing of the past.

EGR

Exhaust gas recirculation

Recirculated exhaust carries soot straight back into the intake, coating the valve and cooler until they stick or plug. A stuck valve shows up as fault codes, sluggish power and a machine stuck in limp mode. Our file disables the EGR, and 3.8L engines get a blocker plate with an OEM gasket to seal it off.

DEF

Diesel exhaust fluid / SCR

The SCR system burns through DEF that has to be bought, stored and kept from freezing, and a single bad NOx or level sensor can derate the machine on the spot. After the reflash the system is off and the DEF tank can stay empty.

CAT skid steers for mulching and forestry

Long days on a mulching head or brush cutter push a CAT’s aftertreatment system to its limit. For forestry work, this is the setup we recommend:

Frequently asked questions

Q1Why choose a Reimer Tuning reflash for my CAT skid steer?+

These CAT machines run the same engine as the Kubota SVL95. We bought our own SVL95 and built this file in house before bringing it to market, and helped develop the protocol needed to reflash these machines.

Q2Will I have warning lights after the reflash?+

No. Once our file is installed there are no emissions warning lights on the dash, and the machine will not go into regen.

Q3My aftertreatment harness is damaged. Does it need to be repaired?+

Yes. The exhaust gas temperature sensors must stay plugged in for CAN bus resistance, so the aftertreatment harness has to be in working condition. The differential pressure sensor does not need to be reconnected, and with a straight pipe the harness can be zip tied out of the way. The sensors do not have to go back into the exhaust.

Q4Can you bypass a DPF filter?+

Yes. All aftertreatment sensors are turned off, so the DPF can be removed completely. Our DPF/SCR straight pipe replaces both canisters. Choose it above (piping is not sold separately).

Q5Will the horsepower tune increase fuel use?+

Our Stage 1 (+10%, 108 hp) and Stage 2 (+20%, 118 hp) tunes use a linear map, so power comes in sooner. Run it at lighter load and you can save fuel, with the extra power there when the job needs it.
