Why delete the DPF, EGR and DEF on a John Deere skid steer?

DPF

Diesel particulate filter

The DPF collects soot from the exhaust and has to clean itself by injecting extra fuel to burn it off. On a skid steer that means stopped work during regens, and a clogged filter that needs cleaning or a costly replacement. With the DPF gone, exhaust flows out freely.

EGR

Exhaust gas recirculation

The EGR valve feeds exhaust gas back into the engine. Carbon builds up until the valve sticks or plugs, which leads to warning lights, lost power and limp mode. The EGR block off plate in our kit closes it off for good.

DEF

Diesel exhaust fluid / SCR

Needs constant fluid top-ups and depends on sensors that can fault and derate the machine. The reflash shuts it off on 330G–333G models so DEF is no longer needed.

Q2Which John Deere skid steers have DEF?+

The 330G, 331G, 332G and 333G are Tier 4 Final machines with DEF. They need the EGR/DPF/DEF reflash, and we flash both the ECM and ACM. The 312E through 333E models are Tier 4 Interim (no DEF) and only need the ECM flashed for the EGR/DPF reflash.

Q3My exhaust temperature sensor is damaged. Do I need to replace it?+

No. Our file turns off the readings from all the sensors on the aftertreatment harness.

Q4Can you bypass a DPF filter?+

Yes. Our kit allows a complete DPF bypass. All sensors are turned off, so the exhaust temperature and pressure sensors can be relocated. On DEF models (330G–333G) we offer a DPF/SCR straight pipe that replaces the DPF and SCR. Choose it above (piping is not sold separately).

Q5Will the horsepower tune increase fuel use?+

We increase the mapping linearly across the board. This means that your machine produces more power sooner. If you run the machine at a lower engine load, you will save fuel, while still having the extra power there when the job calls for it.
